Theatre Group was formed in 1953 and since then has mounted over 120
productions.
Each year we
stage 3 or more productions, now mostly at the Headgate Theatre. Variety
is the key to our choice of plays.
Our members take
on the many roles and tasks that theatre requires – acting, directing,
set construction, lighting, sound, front-of-house, costumes, publicity,
properties and, last but not least, prompt.
We have celebrated many successes within our local
theatre guild and several of our members have gone on to drama school
and careers in the theatre.

TALKING HEADS
Saturday March 29th was an ideal opportunity to get a full flavour of
Alan Bennett's series of six TV monologues from 1986, among the linking
themes being tablets, Ipswich, and men with tattoos
Starting off in fine fashion with Bed Among the Lentils, funny
and slick, with a perfectly judged performance by Maggie Brush. James
Potter enjoyed himself in A Chip in the Sugar, sharing the odd
knowing glance with the audience to bring out much of the humour, as too
did Sara Green, who stayed commendably straight faced during her many
hilarious moments in a perfectly paced performance as A Lady of
Letters.
Come the evening, and Giovanna Austin's touching and reflective
Soldiering On, followed by Louisa McDonald giving it all for Her
Big Chance. Parts of this performance reminded me of her recent
Sabina in The Skin of Our Teeth. The final coup de theatre came
with Teresa Sales in The Cream Cracker Under the Settee, and the
poignant sound of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata as she sat there, lonely
and resigned to her fate, bringing CTG's Talking Heads to an
unforgettable conclusion, which will stay with me for a long time
